Doug Walker (famous on the internet for portraying The Nostalgia Critic) has put this character at #10 on his favorite characters. My main observation is that although Doug claims this character is a girl, I'm not convinced of that. Not only is "her" name Edward which is an obvious boys name, but "she" seems quite flat-chested. Seriously though, I can't tell if this character is a boy or a girl. That's okay though, because I've read X: A Fabulous Child's Story [link] and I know that he/she is comfortable in his/her own skin. This might be the character that comes the closest to being neither a boy or a girl that I've ever seen, and I've never even seen Cowboy Bebop besides that one part.
